DRUG INTERACTIONS:
Separate dose from medication by 2 hours to minimise any interactions.
Caution with phenobarbital and phenytoin (anticonvulsants) - high doses of vitamin B6 or folate can decrease their efficacy. Use only under the supervision of a health professional.
Caution with L-Dopa - vitamin B6 increases the peripheral metabolism of levodopa and may lower levodopa levels for CNS penetration, resulting in reduced levodopa effects. The effect of pyridoxine is prevented by administration of a dopa-decarboxylase inhibitor (e.g. benserazide, carbidopa) with levodopa, as is common clinical practice.
Caution with methotrexate (folic acid antagonist) - co-administration with folate may reduce the effects. Patients should take folate only under the supervision of a health professional.
Caution with aluminium-containing phosphate binders - vitamins C and D can increase aluminium absorption. Separate dose.
Caution with thiazide diuretics - thiazides may reduce urinary calcium excretion and increase serum calcium levels when administered with high doses of vitamin D. Monitor serum calcium levels.
Caution with cardiac glycosides (e.g. digoxin) - vitamin D can elevate serum calcium levels, which may lead to increased inflow of calcium into myocardial cells, increasing toxicity of cardiac glycosides. monitor calcium levels.
Caution with orlistat - may impair the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins. Take Women's Multi + at least 2 hours after orlistat.
Caution with phosphate and drugs containing phosphate - vitamin D increases the absorption of phosphates which may lead to hyperphosphataemia. Monitor.
Separate the dose from colestyramine and colestipol - may reduce absorption of fat-soluble vitamins, vitamin B3 and folate. Space administration as far apart as possible.
Caution with calcium channel blockers - vitamin D may reduce the effectiveness of these drugs. Use under medical supervision.
Caution with blood thinning medications, including warfarin - vitamins E and C, selenium and Grape seed may interfere with the activity of vitamin K in producing blood clotting factors and lead to increased clinical effects of oral anticoagulants. Monitor.
Caution with NSAIDs, cefalexin, penicillamine and quinolone and tetracycline antibiotics - form insoluble complexes with magnesium and zinc, decreasing absorption. Seperate dose by 3 hours.
CAUTIONS:
Not recommended in pregnancy and breastfeeding due to lack of safety data on Grape seed.
Caution in iron overload conditions (e.g. haemochromatosis). Contains iron and vitamin C, which increases the absorption of iron.
