WARNINGS:
When taken in excess of 3000 micrograms retinol equivalents, vitamin A can cause birth defects. If you are pregnant, or considering becoming pregnant, do not take vitamin A supplements without consulting your doctor.
The recommended daily amount of vitamin A from all sources is 700 micrograms retinol equivalents for women and 900 micrograms retinol equivalents for men. Contains zinc which may be dangerous if taken in large amounts or for a long period. Vitamin and mineral supplements should not replace a balanced diet.
DRUG INTERACTIONS:
Contraindicated with retinoid medication (including acitretin, isotretinoin, accutane or roaccutane) - vitamin A supplements should not be taken concurrently due to potential vitamin A toxicity.
Caution with NSAIDs, cephalexin, penicillamine and quinolone antibiotics and tetracycline antibiotics - zinc interferes with their absorption and vitamin A may reduce their effectiveness. Separate dose by 3 hours.
Caution with amiloride (diuretic) - drug can reduce zinc excretion, leading to zinc accumulation.
Caution with eltrombopag - zinc may reduce drug absorption. Separate dose by 4 hours.
Caution with levodopa - vitamin B6 reduces drug effects. However, this effect is prevented by the administration of a dopadecarboxylase inhibitor (e.g. benserazide, carbidopa) with levodopa, as is common clinical practice.
Caution with phenobarbital/phenobarbitone and phenytoin (anticonvulsants) - vitamin B6 may reduce serum concentrations. Monitor.
Caution with oral contraceptives - concurrent use may increase vitamin A levels.
Caution with aspirin and paracetamol - zinc and vitamin A may reduce their effectiveness. Separate dose by 2HRS
Caution with calcium supplements - zinc and calcium compete for common intestinal absorption sites. Separate zinc and calcium supplements by at least 2 hours.
