St Johns Wort 3600 contains high-strength St Johns wort, standardised to contain 1.98mg hypericin per tablet.

St Johns wort supports healthy mood balance and helps support emotional wellbeing.

St Johns wort is traditionally used in Western herbal medicine as a calmative to relieve nervous tension, restlessness, irritability and reduce excess nervous energy.

  • Hypericum perforatum (St. John's wort) flowering herb top extract 600mg, derived from dry herb minimum 3.6g (stand. to contain hypericin derivatives calc. as hypericin 1.98mg)

Adults and children over 12 years: Take 1-2 tablets daily, with food, or as directed by your healthcare professional.

Does not contain egg, milk, peanut, corn, soy, tree nuts, animal products, gluten, lactose or artificial colours, flavours or preservatives.

WARNINGS: St John's wort affects the way many prescription medicines work, including the oral contraceptive pill. Consult your doctor.

DRUG INTERACTIONS:

St John's wort, particularly hyperforin, induces the CYP450 enzyme system, and should not be used with drugs metabolised through this pathway, including indianvir, cyclosporin, oral contraceptives, digoxin, theophylline, HIV protease inhibitors, HIV non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors, methadone, antineoplastic drugs, anticonvulsants (phenobarbiton, phenytoin), antidepressants, tacrolimus, omeprazole, midazolam, alprazolam and carbamazepine (tegretol).

Contraindicated with anticoagulants warfarin (coumadin, marevan) and phenprocoumon - St John's wort may decrease pro-thrombin time and international normalised ratio (INR) values. Monitor.

Contraindicated with oral contraceptives. St John's wort may decrease efficacy and increase risk of ovulation and pregnancy.

CAUTIONS:

Contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation.

Discontinue use at least one week prior to any general anaesthetic.

Avoid St John's wort in combination with tyramine-rich foods and beverages - coadministration may cause elevated blood pressure and rapid heart rate. Tyramine-rich foods include aged cheeses, cured meats, fermented foods, dried fruits, beer and red wine.

SIDE EFFECTS:

Photosensitivity has been recorded in some individuals although this is unlikely at the therapeutic dose.
